Abstract

Individuals with intellectual disabilities may experience difficulties in emotion recognition and emotional regulation, processes that are fundamental to their cognitive development and to their social, behavioral, and academic competencies. The literature reports various studies on the use of interactive technologies, such as gamification-based tools, to support the development of emotional skills in different populations. However, few tools have been specifically designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities. In response to this gap, Odisea Emocional was developed as a gamification-based tool to support therapeutic interventions for emotional regulation in individuals with intellectual disabilities. This article presents the redesign process of Odisea Emocional and the results of its expert validation. The methodology included four stages: analysis of the original design using Nielsen’s heuristics, a literature review of inclusive design guidelines, development of a mid-fidelity prototype, and expert validation. The redesign incorporated elements of consistent visual identity and interface simplification. The results suggest that Odisea Emocional has the potential to support therapeutic interventions and highlight areas for improvement for its implementation.
